Steve Dorsey is the design
and graphics director at the Detroit Free Press and a part-time
design consultant. He edits the Society for News Design's quarterly
Design magazine and has been a member of the competition committee
for the past nine years. Steve is a member of the Knight Ridder
Visual Journalism task force and has been a speaker at annual
SND conferences, Quick Courses and numerous state and regional
journalism seminars, and was a visiting adjunct professor to
Syracuse University. Steve has also worked at the Lexington
(Ky.) Herald-Leader, the York (Pa.) Daily Record, The Syracuse
(NY) Newspapers and the Norwich (NY) Evening Sun. Steve graduated
from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse school and the Poynter
visual apprenticeship program in 1994. |
Novia Knight is currrently a news graphics artist
at the Detroit Free Press. In 2001 Novia received her Bachelor
of Science Degree in Graphic Design from Florida A&M University's
School of Journalism, Media, and Graphic Communications. After
participating in a six-month post-grad internship with the
Detroit Free Press, she became a full-time staff member in
January. One of her most recent achievements was receiving
a Printing Association of Florida award for a seat belt safety
campaign that she designed. Novia is strongly committed to
advancing her skills in news graphics, print design, and also
the fine arts.

Sharilyn Hufford joined the
Detroit Free Press in February 2001 as an assistant metro editor.
Before moving to Detroit, she designed 1A and special projects
at the Charlotte (NC) Observer. She started her career as a
copy editor/ designer at the Savannah (Ga.) Morning News, where
she also helped create the newspaper's Web site, savannahnow.com,
and worked for nearly two years as the paper's news planning
and design editor. Her work, both as a designer and editor,
has been recognized by the Society for News Design. She has
a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School
of Journalism. |
